The Delaware Copper Mine has an exciting offer for school groups as they prepare to learn
about our region’s mining history - one that will engage student voice and choice. Mine tours
are $3/person for class visits, but we’d like to provide students the opportunity to give back to
their community by donating that fee to a charity of their choice. Even better, the Delaware
Mine will match that contribution 1:1, doubling the impact! This is our way of helping our
community and honoring the legacy of community support fostered by founder, Tom Poynter. We are calling this our Delaware Mine Match Program.
We propose for school groups visiting the Delaware Mine:
• As a class, students select a local charity that could use some assistance (a shelter,
food pantry, local family, senior center, or even their own school).
• The $3/person admission fee is collected, then donated to the identified cause.
• The Delaware Mine will match that donation dollar for dollar, donating the money to the
same cause.
We are also establishing a mini-grant fund to help with transportation costs and are
setting aside $1,000 as a start. We will offer up to $100/field trip for those that can use a little assistance.
So if you know a school group that would like to be a part of this program they can reach out by email or phone and ask about the program. Together we can better understand needs in our community and support those who can use a little help.
